You probably had no idea that for for $10, Jean-Georges Vongerichten would prepare and deliver dinner to your door. You can't actually, but CookUnity, which is a "collective" of some incredibly well-known chefs, promises something vaguely comparable in its prepared meal service.

The three-year-old meal delivery service has committed a sizeable portion of its brand ethos to giving chefs, both renowned and up-and-coming, a platform to sell their meals when people are unable to acquire reservations. Every single ready-to-eat meal from CookUnity has a chef's name connected to it, implying that the chef who developed the dish you're eating at your dining room table or over the kitchen counter. Heavy hitters like Einat Admony (Tam, Balaboosta), John DeLucie (Waverly Inn, Lumaca), and the aforementioned Jean-Georges Vongerichten (Jean-Georges) are among some of the more recent names that are available for ordering.

I chose to choose CookUnity after trying a sizable number of the prepared meal delivery services that are offered and liking quite a few of them. CookUnity meals, which start at approximately $10 per person, were as varied as you might anticipate from a service whose recipes come from dozens of chefs, each with their own distinct culinary expertise.

Overall, I thought the food at CookUnity was of a great calibre and the platform was simple to use.

Editors' note: Before reading the complete review, keep in mind that CookUnity is presently offered in the 27 states indicated on the map. According to a brand representative, shipping is rapidly growing, so if your ZIP code isn't currently covered, try again later.

How CookUnity works

This is a meal subscription service, so you'll choose either four, six, eight, 12 or 16. You can always add, pause or skip deliveries easily or change your plan at any time but remember that meals will keep coming if you don't and you'll be charged for them. Meals are delivered chilled with ice to keep them that way but never frozen. Most can be easily frozen if you can't get to them by the date recommended on the side of the box, but I'd contend some will freeze better than others.

My six-pack of CookUnity meals arrived fresh and not frozen.

A rotating menu of more than 150 meals is available for you to choose from each week, or you can let CookUnity make the selections and be surprised when you open the box. You can sort by diet plan while choosing meals, including vegan and vegetarian, keto, low-calorie, Whole30-friendly, gluten-free, and many more options. Before adding something to your cart, you may also read the whole nutritional breakdown, the list of ingredients, and customer reviews.

To ensure that someone will be home to put the meals in the refrigerator, CookUnity will set an initial delivery day, but you may change that if necessary. You can even arrange deliveries within a specific window.

CookUnity has tons of plant-based options and meals to meet the needs of just about any special diet or nutrition plan.

Simple heating instructions are included on the side of the box when the meals are delivered; frequently, these instructions include both a chef's recommendation and a quick-heat option, which typically calls for the microwave. Warning: The chef's advice should be followed, even if it necessitates using a little piece of aluminium foil or spritzing a nonstick skillet afterwards.

The decision regarding CookUnity

I'll admit that the high strike rate of this supper delivery shocked me favourably. I was concerned the service would be inconsistent when I realised there were literally dozens of chefs from whom they had culled the dishes. But in actuality, every meal was well-prepared and flavorful, and I didn't come across a single genuine flop. The only dish where I wanted for a larger serving was the cod, but otherwise, every lunch or dinner was filling.

The most fascinating aspect of CookUnity is the sheer number of meal alternatives available to you, all of which were created by chefs with various backgrounds, culinary philosophies, and levels of notoriety. In my opinion, CookUnity is a fun way to discover new chef personalities and restaurants for the next time I'm travelling to a new city or searching for a place to eat out locally, in addition to being a wonderful method to keep myself nourished without having to cook.

I recommend giving CookUnity a try and seeing how you like it because you may pause or cancel the subscription at any moment.
